Grievances

Appeals
If you or your provider do not agree with a APS/MAPS-MD decision about your care, you may appeal. The appeal process can include three levels of review.

LEVEL I
If you or your provider are not satisfied with a APS/MAPS-MD decision, you may request, within three business days, a second opinion from APS/MAPS-MD Medical Director. Requests may be made in writing or by phone. APS/MAPS-MD must respond within three business days. If APS/MAPS-MD's Medical Director still does not approve the services and no agreement can be reached, a letter will be sent to you within two days explaining the decision and telling you how to appeal to the Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency (AACMHA).

LEVEL II
If you or your provider are still unsatisfied about the coverage decision, you may request an opinion from AACMHA. A decision will be made in 10 working days unless it is urgent, in which case a decision will be made within 5 working days.

LEVEL III
Recipients of mental health services also have the right to appeal to the State Office of Administrative Hearings.

To request an appeal form, phone or email our office.
