This six hour workshop will provide an overview or how trauma, family stress, and environmental factors can impact attachment between caregivers and young children. Participants will learn ways to assess attachment styles in both caregivers and adults and create a safe and nurturing environment for families to learn play techniques to strengthen attachment. Therapeutic play interventions will be taught through role play, case study, and instructor example. Discussion about how to adapt techniques to telehealth will also be included.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to explain how racial trauma and socioeconomic factors impact mental health and attachment in children birth to six years old.
Participants will assess relational qualities between a child and caregiver in order to support play based interventions.
Participants will be able to compare four primary types of attachment.
Participants will be able to utilize the use of at least three therapeutic interventions with children ages birth to six.
