Interracial marriage is becoming more common—and today’s racial climate can bring unique challenges.
Drawing on interviews and surveys with over 550 intermarried people described in their new book, Interracial Marriage, this talk explores the realities couples face during a time of great racial divide in the U.S. The Authors of Interracial Marriage: How Diverse Couples Navigate Relationships in a Divided Time will explore how the external racial climate impacts interracial couples including how they raise their mixed-race children.
The Six Pillars of a Brave Space will be presented as a framework for how clinicians can support interracial couples in therapy.
Objectives:
Describe how the current racial climate can affect the experiences, relationships, and well-being of interracial couples and their families.
