Laverne Cox once said, “It is revolutionary for any trans person to choose to be seen and visible in a world that tells us we should not exist.”
With the widening of awareness and interest in serving Transgender and Gender-Expansive (TGE) individuals, there is a need to develop a greater sensitivity to the unique challenges that these populations face in navigating the coming out process as well as accessing essential supportive resources. Furthermore, state-based protections hardly guarantee equitable participation in civic life, and unique challenges are routinely posed by the politicization of trans identities and trans bodies.
This training will provide attendees with insight and information on ways that social workers can support TGE individuals in care with coming out, with facilitating warm referrals to relevant community-based services, and with accessing information on accessing trans-affirming support.
