Presenter
Richard Tedeschi, PhD
Executive Director Boulder Crest Institute for Posttraumatic Growth

In this presentation, Dr. Tedeschi will discuss the theoretical and empirically based model of posttraumatic growth in contrast to the traditional model of PTSD. The possibilities for transformation of individuals and their relationships do not preclude working on typical symptoms of trauma, but recognize that symptoms are better understood, tolerated, and reduced when traumatic suffering can have meaning and purpose.

A description of Boulder Crest interventions for veterans and first responders based on this posttraumatic growth model will be provided. Data on several thousand program participants that demonstrate substantial and lasting changes will be presented. Posttraumatic Growth Certification opportunities will be described with information on the process of application process for a variety of helping professionals.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will learn to distinguish between a relationship-focused expert companionship approach to trauma survivors and a traditional symptom-focused intervention.

2. Participants will learn a five-phase model of intervention to facilitate posttraumatic growth.

3. Participants will be able to describe five possible outcomes from the posttraumatic growth process.

Designed for behavioral health professionals, clinicians, and community partners who want to deepen their understanding of Posttraumatic Growth (PTG) and how meaning-making after trauma can support long-term recovery and resilience.
