Social workers and other professionals serving adoption/guardianship families may have a limited understanding of the issues contributing to mental health challenges, especially the impact of trauma, treatment of attachment injury, and the resulting effects on development. This workshop will present therapeutic parenting tools and strategies for supporting attachment and attunement and promoting felt safety.
Objectives:
Demonstrate competence using tools, as practiced in this workshop, that support attachment and attunement and promote felt safety.
List at least three interventions that workers can utilize to support attachment and attunement and promote felt safety.
Identify at least four key competencies for adoption-competent child welfare practice and mental health practice focusing on the effects of trauma and attachment on development, mental health, and behavior.
