Implicit and explicit biases have been shown to impact the provision of mental and physical health professional practice, resulting in negative outcomes for clients and patients. This workshop is designed for professionals who acknowledge these negative impacts exist and are motivated to take action to mitigate them. Through this session, attendees will explore various tools designed to help professionals identify biases that impact their own practice and the practices of those they interface with. With increased awareness, attendees will work toward positive change for professionals and those they serve.

Objectives:

Identify the impact of implicit and explicit bias on the provision of professional mental and/or physical health services.

Utilize evidence-based tools to recognize and evaluate implicit and explicit biases.

Apply a structured framework to assess the impact of implicit bias within professional practice.

Demonstrate effective strategies to address and mitigate implicit bias in professional settings.
