Weight-altering medications are increasingly discussed in both medical settings and popular culture, and therapists are likely to encounter clients who are considering or currently using these medications. These conversations can raise complex clinical questions related to appetite regulation, body image, dieting behaviors, and eating disorder risk.

This training examines the clinical and cultural implications of medications intended to influence weight, appetite, or metabolism. Participants will review common categories of weight-altering medications and how they may affect hunger cues, satiety, and eating behavior. The session also explores how broader cultural messaging about weight loss and dieting can shape clients' motivations for using these medications, interact with existing body image concerns, and increase risk of eating disorder development or relapse.

Participants will learn to recognize warning signs that may emerge in the context of weight-loss medication use and will discuss practical strategies for screening, responding to client questions, and collaborating with medical providers when weight-altering medications arise in clinical conversations.
