For mental health professionals, issues related to grief can arise for any client at any given time. This continuing education training aims to provide therapists with a comprehensive understanding of Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD), including its historical context within the DSM, differential diagnosis considerations, effective clinical interventions, and guidelines for appropriate referrals. 

Through a combination of sociohistorical review, theoretical framework, case studies, and practical clinical interventions, participants will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to recognize and diagnose PGD, as well as an understanding of the controversies around its inclusion in DSM

Staying Safe in Practice: De-Escalation and Personal Safety for Mental Health Professionals

The personal safety of mental health professionals is a vital part of our practice. This workshop will empower helpers to develop situational awareness and consider best practices for safety in the office and in the field. The four A’s of personal safety will be outlined. Case studies will highlight the importance of safety considerations and provide learners with the opportunity to critically analyze their personal and agency safety protocols. 

De-escalation strategies will be presented as a first line intervention to defusing challenging situations. Learners will be prepared to handle safety concerns and escalated clients with clarity and confidence.
