Somatic Interventions for Trauma

8:40 AM-12:00 PM ET

When people experience trauma, it’s not just the brain that experiences it. The mind and the body cannot be separated unless consciousness leaves the body behind, but the body is still here. The body is in the present moment, and that’s where life happens. Trauma disconnects mind and body. Trauma makes the mind believe the body is an unsafe place to exist. Trauma sows seeds of distrust between the mind and the body.

Somatic interventions for trauma focuses on the use of trauma-informed care (empowerment, trust, safety) to reunite mind and body, so that the body becomes a sanctuary where the mind can rest. How does this happen? Slowly, and with a lot of permission and education.

Breathwork is often the bridge between conscious and subconscious processing, and there are a lot of different breathwork techniques to try. This builds safety in being present with body experiences while also promoting trust and empowerment in the ability to use effective tools to get a desired result whether that’s focus, grounding, mental clarity, or motivation.

When Therapy Ends: Ethical Considerations of Terminations and Endings

12:40 PM-4:00 PM ET

Ending a therapeutic relationship can be just as critical as the work done throughout treatment. But how do clinicians navigate this process ethically while avoiding client abandonment? Join experienced presenter Diane Bigler, LCSW, LSCSW, as she explores best practices for ethical termination, ensuring clients receive the closure they need.

This workshop will help clinicians distinguish between ethical termination and unethical abandonment from an NASW ethical perspective. Through case studies, guided discussions, and practical strategies, participants will gain clarity on when and how to end treatment responsibly. You’ll also explore the emotional impact of termination on both clients and clinicians and review strategies to reduce premature termination rates.
