About Us

The Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency (AACMHA) is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 corporation.

AACMHA is the Core Service Agency (CSA) for the County. AACMHA partners with the Anne Arundel County Department of Health to form the Local Behavioral Health Authority (LBHA), which acts as the system manager for planning, managing, and monitoring public behavioral health services to create an ideal continuum of care for its residents.

In September 2024, The Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency's Crisis Response received a three year accreditation from CARF International.

This is a significant achievement and reflects the dedication and commitment from our Agency to improving the quality of life for those we serve in our community.

The Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency (AACMHA)  has a not-for-profit management structure with a Board of Directors appointed by the County Executive and accountable to the County Council for its activities. 

The Board of Directors is comprised of county officials, persons living with mental illness, family members of persons living with mental illness, behavioral health advocates, businessmen and women, and other citizens.

The Board of Directors oversees the operations of the AACMHA and, as the mental health authority for the county, is responsible for developing and implementing the annual Strategic Plan.

The Anne Arundel County Local Behavioral Health Authority (LBHA) is comprised of two separate corporate bodies, the Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency (AACMHA), a 501(c)3 non-profit, and the Anne Arundel County Department of Health (AACDOH), which is part of local government.  

The Anne Arundel County LBHA is responsible for the development, delivery, and quality assurance of behavioral health services in Anne Arundel County.
