Crisis Intervention Team Specialist 1 – Full-Time Day Shift (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM ET or 10:00 AM – 6:00PM ET)

This is an on-site position

This position reports to the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Supervisor within the Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency, Inc. (Agency). The work of the Crisis Intervention Team Specialist (CIT Specialist) is accomplished in a two-member team that pairs the CIT Specialist with a specially trained police officer. The position interacts regularly with the Operations Center staff and the Mobile Crisis Team (MCT) to address client needs.

Working collaboratively as part of a two-member team, the CIT Specialist provides acute crisis response, as well as critical case management, to prevent further crises from occurring. 

The CIT Specialist works to assess and treat individuals with mental, emotional or substance abuse problems. The activities for this position are performed primarily in response to dispatched assignments that arise from needs identified in telephone calls to the Warmline and Operations Center (OPS) of the Crisis Response System, from police briefings or from the Mobile Crisis Team. 

CIT services to clients include crisis intervention, case management, client advocacy, crisis prevention and incident diffusion, and client education.  Complete Emergency Petitions as necessary.  Additionally, this position ensures that the police member of the CIT partnership is properly trained and ready to provide immediate response to crises situations.


Major Duties & Responsibilities:
•    Provides crisis interventions to clients experiencing serious mental or behavioral distress to deescalate situations
•    Works effectively as a collaborating member of the care team, including case debriefing with partner
•    Follows established routines and procedures for daily client follow-up 
•    Interviews clients, reviews records, conducts assessments, or confers with community providers to evaluate the mental or physical condition of clients or patients
•    Collaborates with community providers to plan or coordinate treatment
•    Refers clients to community resources for housing or treatment to assist in recovery from mental illness or substance abuse, following through to ensure service efficacy
•    Collaborates and obtains appropriate authorizations for use of crisis beds or other critical service needs
•    Completes Emergency Petitions as necessary
•    Educates clients about mental health, substance abuse and available community resources  
•    Monitors, evaluates, records and provides follow-up on client progress with respect to Agency mission and treatment goals
•    Assists clients in adhering to treatment plans, by scheduling appointments, arranging for transportation to appointments or providing additional support, as needed
•    Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications & Abilities:
•    Masters (minimum) in Social Work, Psychology or related field
•    Clinical independent license required - LCSW-C or LCPC
•    Minimum two (2) years related experience 
•    Extensive knowledge of public and private mental health providers and community resources 
•    Knowledge of acute medical, psychiatric and substance use symptoms, diagnoses and treatments
•    Strong assessment (risk, suicidal, crisis intervention and diagnostic) and counseling skills
•    Ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting
•    Ability to maintain effective and professional relationships with clients and others 
•    Excellent interpersonal skills required
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Salary Scale - $88,311 - $101,308. Salary is commensurate with education, credentials and experience.

Full Time Position Available

The position addresses professional and administrative duties necessary for the efficient use of services by engaging with community agencies and care providers on the client’s behalf to help link clients to community resources and follow-up care. 

In addition, services include obtaining support for housing benefits and working with OPS counselors to provide needed medication support. Further, this position has ongoing interactions with OPS staff, the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), and the Mobile Crisis Team (MCT) to ensure support for services to address client needs. 


Bachelor’s in Psychology, Social Work, or related field and minimum two (2) years’ experience, Masters Degree desired.
Knowledge of Medicaid, Social Security and other entitlements preferred.
Knowledge of relevant federal, state and county policies, procedures and regulations.
Knowledge of relevant system of care for Anne Arundel County.
Extensive knowledge of public and private mental health providers and community resources.

FULL TIME, PART TIME, AND CONTINGENT PART TIME

This position is located within the Operations Center (OPS) and "Warmline" of the Crisis Response System of the Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency, Inc (Agency).

The position reports directly to the OPS Supervisor and interacts regularly with the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), Mobile Crisis Team (MCT), Safe Stations Team (SS) Care Coordinators (CC) and Hospital Diversion (HD).

The Mental Health Phone Counselor is responsible for providing phone support and resources to clients who call the Warmline.  Primarily the support results in linkage to mental health services that are provided daily (24 hours).  The Phone Counselor receives all incoming calls, elicits essential information from caller, and determines the immediacy and type of response needed.

Phone Counselors assist clients identified as at-risk for hospitalization in obtaining urgent care appointments and arranging transportation if needed.  The Phone Counselor also assesses for suicidal ideations and creates safety plans when applicable.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or minimum of three (3) years related experience
  • Knowledge of local and county resources preferred
  • Knowledge of Medicaid, Social Security and other entitlements preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish and English a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting

MOBILE CRISIS TEAM CLINICIAN 1 – ON SITE - Full Time, Part Time and On Call Positions Available

This position reports to the Crisis Response System (CRS) Director within the Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency, Inc.


The work of the Mobile Crisis Team Clinician 1 is accomplished in a two-member team, which pairs two licensed clinicians (one independently licensed clinician and a master’s level clinician or intern). 


The position interacts regularly with the Operations Center staff, the Crisis Intervention Team and Care Coordinators to address client needs.


Working collaboratively as part of a two-member team, the MCT clinicians provide acute crisis response as well as critical case management to prevent crises from occurring and to help stabilize crises.


  • Master’s in Social Work or Master’s in Counseling Psychology
  • Independent License required (LCSW-C or LCPC)
  • Minimum two (2) years related experience
  • Extensive knowledge of public and private mental health providers and community resources
