As gaming becomes an increasingly prominent activity in the lives of many young people, mental health professionals must understand its psychological impacts and be prepared to support families facing gaming-related challenges. This course explores the effects of gaming on youth development, including its influence on socialization, mental health, and family dynamics. Important diagnoses such as Gaming Disorder, anxiety, and ADHD will be examined, along with effective treatment methods.

Participants will learn therapeutic techniques to address issues such as gaming addiction, social isolation, and impulsivity, while also developing strategies for family-based interventions. This course equips clinicians with the tools needed to help children and adolescents balance gaming with healthy development and supports families in establishing positive gaming habits.

After this course, participants will be able to:

Examine how gaming affects cognition, emotion regulation, social skills, and family relationships.
Understand diagnostic criteria for conditions like Gaming Disorder, anxiety, ADHD, and social phobia.
Explore therapeutic interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), play therapy, and family therapy, to address gaming-related psychological concerns.
Equip mental health professionals with strategies to help parents and caregivers promote balanced gaming habits and set healthy boundaries.
Identify risk factors like isolation or impulsivity, and integrate protective factors such as self-regulation and social support.
