January 23rd is Maternal Health Awareness Day

According to the National Institute of Health, suicide is a leading cause of death in the perinatal period (pregnancy and 1 year postpartum).  Suicide risks are higher for perinatal patients with mental health diagnoses or prior attempts. Universal screening and better mental health care access can reduce perinatal suicide rates.
