1.7 million reportedly have ADHD according to the Center for Disease Control in 2024 between the ages of 3 and 17. Given this statistic, it is not surprising that a significant number of children in play therapy have ADHD.
This training will examine diagnostic criteria, current trends in treatment to include biofeedback, medication management, and behavior management. Additionally, parenting strategies will be discussed.
This training is important for play therapists and will include directive and non-directive strategies.
Learning Objectives:
State the DSM-V diagnostic criteria for ADHD
Describe behavioral and social challenges that children with ADHD experience in the home, community and school settings.
Identify the therapeutic value and the pros and cons of stimulants, non-stimulants and other medications used to manage ADHD symptoms in children
Identify interventions including directive and non-directive play therapy interventions
