This training explores the complex and bi-directional relationship between substance use disorders and suicidal behaviors. Participants will gain insight into how addiction functions as a maladaptive coping mechanism, understand the neurobiological and psychosocial factors that link substance use with suicidal ideation and attempts, and examine clinical strategies for assessment, motivation-building, and treatment planning. The session emphasizes the need for a holistic, person-centered approach to support individuals at risk.

Identify the key behavioral, psychological, and social mechanisms that link substance use with increased suicide risk.
Apply evidence-based clinical strategies to assess risk and engage individuals in treatment for both suicidal behaviors and substance use disorders
Utilize a biopsychosocial framework to guide holistic addiction and suicide prevention care, including appropriate referral pathways.
