This course's main objective is to examine the critical significance of suicide prevention in special populations. This workshop will delve into both identifying signs of suicide risk among special populations and discussing strategies for prevention with an emphasis on fostering awareness of issues within marginalized communities, including but not limited to the LGBTQIA+ community, neurodivergent individuals, veterans, and those from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Part I: Introduction and Overview (15 minutes)
Part II: Understanding Suicide and Risk Factors (30 minutes)
Learners identify and understand signs of suicidal thoughts and behaviors, especially as it relates to special populations
Learners assess risk and protective factors of suicide
Part III: Recognizing Warning Signs (1 hour)
Learners discuss ways to assess and address signs and symptoms
Part IV: Cultural Competence and Sensitivity (1 hour)
Learners explore key concepts of suicide awareness and cultural sensitivity
Part V:Protective Factors and Interventions (1 hour)
Learners assess the specific risks and challenges special populations face regarding suicide
