This training will cover the mental health aspect of hoarding disorder and the benefit of a harm reduction-based approach through the use of a presentation, videos of individuals with lived experience, a Q&A, and a discussion.
Mental health topics include diagnosis, comorbidities, prevalence, empathy, trust-building and motivation. Harm reduction topics include rationale, assessment, tools, and how to effectively apply a harm reduction approach for better and more sustainable outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
Acquire a better understanding of the mental health components of hoarding disorder.
Explain the difference between hoarding disorder, hoarding behavior, collecting, and squalor.
Learn how to effectively use empathy and empowerment within professional roles to better engage clients and other team members in a compassionate and effective resolution process.
Implement objective harm reduction tools, skills, and strategies to develop effective multidisciplinary collaborative plans to resolve hoarding cases.
