Suicide is a leading cause of preventable death in the United States and worldwide and individuals with serious mental illness are at heightened risk for suicide in comparison to the general population. Given data show nearly 50% of individuals who die by suicide see a clinician within a month of death, suicide prevention-focused training and evidence-based intervention efforts in practice are critically needed.

This training will be focused on special considerations when working with individuals with serious mental illness, specifically schizophrenia spectrum disorders, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder.

In addition to focusing on suicide risk in specific serious mental illness populations, this training will comprehensively cover the application of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention as an evidence-based strategy in treating suicide risk among clients with serious mental illness.
