Loneliness is increasingly recognized as a public health crisis that affects individuals of all ages and backgrounds. This course explores the root causes of loneliness, its impact on mental and physical health, and strategies to effectively identify and address isolation in various settings. Participants will gain an understanding of the social, psychological, and systemic factors that contribute to loneliness, as well as practical tools for intervention.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Define loneliness and distinguish between loneliness, social isolation, and related concepts.
Identify the mental and physical health impacts of chronic loneliness.
Explore the social, environmental, and systemic factors contributing to the loneliness epidemic.
Assess clients for loneliness and social isolation using evidence-based tools.
Develop and implement interventions to reduce loneliness and promote social connection.
Understand the role of community, technology, and social policy in addressing loneliness.
This course is designed for mental health professionals, social workers, and other helping professionals who want to better support clients experiencing loneliness and social isolation.
