This session will provide behavioral health professionals with the language and tools to support youth who confide in them about romantic relationship issues. School-Based Behavioral Health Professionals are one of many people who might be considered “VIPs” in youths’ lives and will undoubtedly hear and provide support on relationship issues (Beam et al., 2002).

Learning Objectives

Understand Healthy Relationship Dynamics: Participants will identify key principles of healthy romantic relationships and apply them to support youth effectively.


Support Youth During Breakups: Attendees will gain strategies to help youth navigate the emotional challenges of breakups and provide constructive guidance.


Address and Prevent Dating Violence: Attendees will learn how to recognize signs of dating violence and discuss prevention strategies with youth.


Facilitate Effective Breakup Conversations: Behavioral Health professionals will be equipped with language and tools to guide youth on how to break up respectfully and effectively.


Utilize and Share Resources: Participants will learn to distribute and integrate provided handouts and resources into meaningful discussions with youth.
