3 Supervision CEs

Maintaining current knowledge of the social work licensing laws and regulations is the ethical responsibility of every social worker, and for supervisors this is an essential element of supervision. Maryland law and regulations define the scope of practice for the different licensing categories and their ethical responsibilities and expectations. This workshop will review the licensing process and important licensing provisions and identify how they impact practice, applicants with various social services experience, and licensees.

*Please note: Participants are encouraged to refer to the website of the Board of Social Work Examiners for the most current and detailed information regarding social work licensing: https://health.maryland.gov/bswe/Pages/default.aspx

Learning Objectives:

Identify the requirements for social work supervisees and board-approved social work supervisors.

Explore the licensing requirements when applying for the LCSW-C as they relate to social service areas.

Recognize major elements in the Social Work Licensing Act (Health Occupations § 19-101et seq) and relevant social work licensing regulations (COMAR 10.42.01, 10.42.02, 10.42.03, and 10.42.08).

Review the scope of practice for all Social Work Licensees, including LBSW, LMSW, LCSW, and LCSW-C, as well as the “independent practice” option for LBSW or LMSW.
