July is Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month-Explore Mental Health America's 2025 BIPOC Mental Health Toolkit at mhanational.org/july

July 2025

July is Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, named in recognition of the efforts of Bebe Moore Campbell, an author, journalist, and teacher who worked to raise awareness of the impact of racism on mental health. She also spoke out about the stigma against being open about mental health issues, pointing out the harm caused when people are pressured by community norms and prevailing prejudices into remaining silent.

Mental Health America has released a toolkit to help individuals and organizations in communities of color take action, with three main focuses: taking care of yourself, finding and taking care of your community, and advocacy. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has also published a toolkit for raising awareness while honoring Bebe Moore Campbell's efforts, which included co-founding NAMI Urban Los Angeles in 2003 with Nancy Campbell.

July of course also means celebrating Independence Day and enjoying warm weather activities. We wish everyone a safe and happy summer!

If you are in crisis and need help, our Warmline is open 24/7 at 410-768-5522.
