This training will go over Tourette syndrome on a broad scope. The trainer will discuss the history behind Tourette syndrome (TS), the prevalence of the disorder, and resources that are available for individuals with TS. At the end of this presentation, you will gain a deeper understanding of how TS impacts an individual and the community, and how you can continue to be an advocate for TS.
Objectives:
Summarize the historical development of Tourette syndrome, including key milestones in its recognition and classification.
Describe the mission, role, and key initiatives of the Tourette Association of America.
Explain the prevalence, diagnostic criteria, and underlying neurological mechanisms of Tourette syndrome and related tic disorders.
Analyze the impact of Tourette syndrome and common co-occurring conditions (e.g., ADHD, OCD) on individuals’ daily functioning and well-being.
Identify at least three evidence-based resources or support systems available for individuals with Tourette syndrome and their families.
